What is Support Coordination?

Support coordination helps NDIS participants to make the best use of their supports in plan. A support coordinator delivers support coordination services.

With good support coordination on your NDIS plan, you should be having support in building your capacity that helps you to:

  • Understand and use your NDIS plan to pursue your goals
  • Connect with NDIS providers, community, mainstream and other government services of your choice
  • Build your confidence and skills to use and coordinate your supports

Ideally When Should Participants be Accessing Support Coordinators?

Generally, participants should start contacting their support coordinators as soon as their NDIS plan comes out. This is because support coordinators will help them to understand their plans, and will ensure their funding be utilised to the maximum to meet their goals and needs which is particular important when preparing for their annual plan review.

How Support Coordination Gets Included in a Plan?

Where reasonable and necessary, support coordination will be included in the ‘Capacity Building’ budget. This is a fixed amount for a support coordinator to help participants use their plan.

Participants can connect with a support coordinator through a request for service. Their planner can help them prepare a request for service. Participants can issue a request for service directly to their preferred provider if they wish to contact their chosen support coordinator themselves.
